Giann Karlo

Welcome to the homepage of Giann Karlo. I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Pasteur Institute. I am working on a project to infer developmental trajectories based on gene expression and cell morphology. I am part of the Machine Learning for Integrative Genomics lab, where I collaborate with Laura Cantini. Previously, I did a postdoc at the Centre for Computational Biology (CBIO), where I worked with Chloé-Agathe Azencott, Florian Massip and Julio Molineros on integrating network-based methods to boost GWAS hits in large cohorts (UK Biobank).

Prior to my research positions, I was a Ph.D. Student at INRIA, working in the Laboratoire Méthodes Formelles at École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay under the supervision of Stefan Haar and Franck Pommereau. I hold a doctoral degree, I defended my thesis on December 14th 2023, see slides and manuscript.

Moreover, I earned a B.Sc. (BAC+5) degree in Computer Science and Engineering, and a B.Sc. (BAC+5) degree in Biology from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Cali). My main research interests are in Systems Biology, Modeling of biological systems, Bioinformatics, Machine Learning, and Algorithms.

I joined the Machine Learning for Integrative Genomics laboratory at the Pasteur Insitute as a postdoc on June 1, 2026.

I am in charge of practical sessions (in English) on Machine Learning foundations at Dassault Systèmes from May 11 to 20, 2026. I designed a new website for the course.
